Scene: a ginormous department store on the Saturday before Easter. A father and 5-ish year-old son are examining the flower selection.

Father: How about this one?

Son: That’s not a Chomper!

Father: I told you, none of these are chompers…

Son (Indignant): I want to get Mommy a Chomper!

Oh man – I always wanted a chomper, too. How did I forget that? Back on the lifetime to-do list. Click the image to take a virtual tour of the Galleria Carnivora – an entire museum dedicated to carnivorous plants.

my girl bought me some venus fly traps for my birthday. i’m not great at taking care of plants but they’re really low maintenance and grow pretty quickly considering i got them in the winter. right now they’re living in a tupperware containor. link to how i got the idea orginally.

some kids at school once got me believe they were selling them at the local grocery store and i always wanted one since then, hah.

or the boy might have meant snapdragons…

we used to call them something along the lines of “chompers” when we were little.

heh, reminds me of my “gifted” science class from back in middle school. We had all these cool science programs for the computer that none of the regular classes got to play with. One such program was a sort of sim-flytrap game where you had to find the right soil-composition, sunlight exposure, and of course flies to give the plant for maximum growth. I’ve wanted a chomper myself ever since.
